In the swing
Tennis playing across the county is in full swing and we just have lovely places to play tennis.
In the sun at Perranporth long term Cornish junior teammates Matt and Archie met for a hit on the hard courts, and they were followed by Perran Tennis Chair Peter with a men’s four. Whilst the boys were finishing the men had a hit on the grass courts and can be seen here with the idyllic clubhouse in the background.
The Nifty Fifty Cornwall ladies have already had practices at St Agnes and Truro, and this week practiced on the new artificial clay courts at St Ives. They were made welcome by St Ives Chair Chris at this most beautiful of venues.
This weekend sees the return of County Cup tennis for the first time since February 2020. Like so much due to the pandemic the loss of a whole year of county fixtures means many players have missed County Cup opportunities, which is particularly poignant for the juniors as they will not be 10U, or 12U etc. again.
The 12U teams are up first, both girls and boys going to Torquay this weekend. The girls today and the boys tomorrow. Good luck to Agnes, Chloe, Lilia, Amelie, Xiao, and Amelia today and Reeve, Louis, Buzz, Elijah, Zach, and Reece tomorrow. With the teams will be County Coaches Tim and Matt, so the teams have experienced coaches leading them.
Next week is the turn of the 14U teams and this year they are playing in Cornwall as the SW group has been split into two to allow for social distancing. Therefore more venues were needed, and Heron at Newquay was one of the extra ones chosen. Thank you to all at Heron for hosting this event. It is a shame everyone cannot go see these talented youngsters in action. Let’s hope we will be able to do see next year.
I will let you know how our teams get on and update you on latest events across the county.
May your tennis be blessed with sun!
