Coaches Information

Tennis Cornwall Bursary Scheme 

 

Tennis Cornwall are committed to the development and support of the coaching workforce in Cornwall. 

 

All applications must be emailed to Mike Thomas mike321t@gmail.com. Applications must be submitted 10 days before the next Tennis Cornwall Committee meeting. Any applications received after this date will be considered at the following committee meeting.

The decision on whether to support an application will be made by the Tennis Cornwall Committee. Applicants will receive notice on whether their application has been successful via email following the committee meeting. The amount of money granted may be different to the amount applied for.

Tennis Cornwall reserve the right to refuse an application they do not feel benefits the county’s coaching workforce.

The Bursary Scheme is available to financially support coaches in Cornwall through the following means.

​

1. Coaching Network Event

 

Description. Tennis Cornwall will provide financial support to book experts to deliver CPD training at Coach Network Events. There are at least 3 Coach Network Events a year where coaches can meet and discuss things that are pertinent to them and specific to coaching in Cornwall. There is also an opportunity to receive training from experts on different topics.  

 

Benefit. The coaches attending the Coaching Network Event can apply for the 1 CPD per hour of training received. This will incentivise coaches attending the Network Events.

 

Coaches Requirements. None. The Networking Events are free to attend. 

 

Costs. The cost will depend on the expert being booked. Priority will be given to booking LTA workforce speakers to reduce the costs.

 

2. Mentoring Programme 

 

Description. Tennis Cornwall will provide a financial contribution to a coach wishing join the LTA Mentorship Programme. The coach will receive individualised training on the specific area of interest they are being mentored in. The mentoring will take place over a series of sessions the number of which is determined by the mentor and the coach. 

 

Benefit. The coach will gain expert knowledge in a specific area that will help them develop their skills. The skills they learn can be used at their club. This coach can share their knowledge with other coaches in the county.   

 

Coaches Requirements. The coach will have to make a short presentation at a Coach Network Event on what they have learnt during the programme. 

 

Costs. The cost will depend on the expert being booked. Priority will be given to booking LTA workforce mentors to reduce the costs.

 

All cases will be assessed on a case by case basis.

3. Conferences/Training 

 

Description. Tennis Cornwall will provide a financial contribution towards a coach attending a conference or training. The decision on whether to support someone or the size of the contribution will be will be made on a needs based system. 

 

Benefit. The coach will gain knowledge on different areas that can help them develop their programme. The coach can also share that knowledge with other coaches in the county. 

 

Coaches Requirements. The coach will have to make a short presentation at a Coach Network Event on what they have learnt at the conference/training. The coach will be required to make their case for support on their application. 

 

Costs. The cost will depend on the conference or training they are attending. 

All cases will be assessed on a case by case basis.

 

4. Coaching Qualifications 

 

Description. Tennis Cornwall will provide a financial contribution to a coach wishing to take an LTA coaching qualification. The decision on whether to support someone or the size of the contribution will be made on a needs based system. Only coaches that cannot afford the entry fee and associated costs will be supported. 

 

Benefit. This will increase the size and diversity of the coaching workforce in the county. The clubs will benefit from the services the coach will be required to provide. 

 

Coaches Requirements. The coach will be required to make their case for support on their application. Upon the completion of their course the coach will be required to volunteer an agreed number of hours for free at their club or at county events. The number of volunteering hours will be agreed by the Tennis Cornwall committee and will be associated to the amount of support granted.   

 

Cost. The amount of financial support will depend on the amount of need and the cost of the course.  

 

All cases will be assessed on a case by case basis.
